Doe, a deer, a female deer... Ray, a drop of golden sun~
I bet everybody knows that song from the tuneful yet heartwarming 1965 musical drama movie, The Sound of Music. The movie that tells the story of Maria (played by Julie Andrews) and the von Trapp Family became one of the most successful movies as it achieved many nominations and won some of them, such as the Oscars. The warmth of the film, which also symbolizes the romantic sights of Austria, lives in the writer's mind eternally.

Most of the set of the movie was in Austria, especially in the city of Salzburg; even the harmonious real von Trapp family once lived there. The setting of The Sound of Music gained a lot of tourist interest, such as the Schloss Hellbrunn, Nonnberg Abbey, Mehlweg, and Schloss Leopoldskron. Schloss Hellbrunn is where the gazebo where the lovebirds, Liesl and Rolf, sang the "16 Going On 17" song is located.

The movie's phenomenal opening, where Maria sings in a mountain, is situated in Mehlweg, 6 miles from Salzburg. Other than that, the nuns from the movie sang the "Maria" song in front of the Nonnberg Abbey. The lakeside part of the Von Trapp house is also located in Schloss Leopoldskron, Salzburg.

Some companies in Salzburg offer tours on the theme of the Sound of Music, such as the "Original Sound of Music Tour."; which originated from the fans' enthusiasm to visit the filming locations. The tour became famous and was officially marked as the official tour on the DVD. I recommend this as a perfect activity to start your journey with loved ones in Austria!

Wow, very nice sound indeed
